Guest award winning poet musician Avotcja reads her latest poem and discusses her work. Mission Muralist  Spain Rodriguez will talk about ”What so funny?” in the world of comic murals. We’ll hear great musica and stroll the Streets of Aztlan to hear a calendar of upcoming events.

Tonight we present a commemoration of  International Women’s Month with our second annual program dedicated to presenting some of the women who have contributed to the music of Cuba. We will hear early singers such as Maria Teresa Vera, Sexteto Anacaona, Paulina Alvarez, Rita Montaner, Celeste Mendoza and Las Hermanas Marquez, as well as contemporary singers like Vannia Borges, Yeny Valdes, Halia Mompie and Myra Caridad Valdes.

Carmen Vicente is a Medicine Woman of South America from the border of Ecuador and Peru. Since the age of 4, she has been trained in the traditional healing ways of her people and carries with her the traditions of the Mysteries of the Andes and of the Curanderos of the Sacred Lagoons of the South. For nearly 50 years, Carmen has used her knowledge to procure recognition and autonomy for traditional practices and teachings.

( This event is bi-lingual and translation will be provided for English speakers.)
