Aug 30 – Radio Cuba Canta presents: 100th Birthday Tribute to Arsenio Rodriguez hosted by Emiliano Echeverria – KPFA FM
Posted on August 30, 2011Radio Cuba Canta presents a 4-hour documentary and 100th Birthday Tribute to the life, music and genius of Arsenio Rodriguez.
Part of the international Centennial Tribute to Arsenio Rodriguez this weekend, this historic broadcast is a special tribute to the creative genius responsible for influencing many artists of today in the “Salsa,” Latin Jazz, and the music of Cuba itself, even today. Often compared to Louis Armstrong, Arsenio Rodriguez, was responsible for creating essential elements of the Mambo, years before Perez Prado brought the Mambo to worldwide audience.
We present rare recordings, historical viewpoints by Rene Lopez, David Garcia, Bobby Sanabria and Orlando Maraca Valle, and an interview with Arsenio himself recorded in the early 1960s.
